Today, the Tribeca Film Festival announced that virtual reality (VR) filmmakers can submit entries for Awards. VR will premiere at the main festival in 2017!
A progressive step for VR content. Previously, Tribeca Film Festival only showcased VR films in the ‘Virtual Arcade’. A place to view new storytelling technologies.
Virtual reality isn’t just a futuristic concept anymore, but a bullish market, projected to reach $110 billion by 2020 according to Goldman Sachs
Cinematic VR movie experiences, like VR Noir: A Day Before the Night, create new ways to encounter storytelling. You become the character and step into the narrative, feeling a new level of depth and emotion.
“Tribeca is a forward-thinking storytelling festival, and we have been supporting work that goes beyond the big screen for many years. As the technology and tools proliferate in the creative community, and new distribution models emerge, we feel it is the right time to expand and support artists on these growing platforms in a broader way.” Festival director Genna Terranova
VR content creators can still apply to have work showcased in the Virtual Arcade. Next year’s event starts on April 19 to April 30 in New York City.
Submissions for this year’s festival will open on September 6.
